Japan's flagship yen stablecoin has faced a disappointing first year in the market, falling well short of initial growth projections. Chief Executive Officer Noritaka Okabe pointed directly to a strict one million yen per-transaction cap imposed on Type II funds transfer providers as the primary bottleneck. This regulatory constraint has made large-scale corporate adoption impractical, stifling the utility and volume of the stablecoin. Despite strong initial interest in digital yen solutions, compliance friction continues to slow down Japan's crypto modernization efforts. Industry advocates are lobbying for regulatory reforms to ease these caps and encourage digital asset integration within traditional corporate treasuries. Until policy changes are implemented, domestic stablecoin growth is expected to remain sluggish.
