Bank Negara Malaysia has officially rolled out a distributed ledger technology platform designed for issuing, tracking, and settling tokenized fixed-income securities. The new infrastructure connects directly to RENTAS+, the country's real-time gross settlement system, enabling atomic delivery-versus-payment in central bank money. Institutional participants can record bond ownership transfers on-chain while reducing post-trade reconciliation delays and counterparty risk. The central bank noted that the initiative builds on bilateral tokenization trials across Southeast Asia to modernize wholesale capital markets. Market participants view sovereign DLT adoption as a catalyst for broader institutional real-world asset tokenization across Asian banking corridors.
